I stumbled across this a while back, and haven’t known how to present it. All I can tell you is that it has given me a lot to think about, a lot to reflect on, and little that I feel I can add.

Go look up the blog “templeofiron.org” – originally “searching for dragons” – and especially this post on why it was called searching for dragons.

An excerpt:

Jordan continues ONE OF THE OLDEST DRAMATIC
REPRESENTATIONS WE KNOW OF, NOT
THIS SPECIFIC PAINTING, THIS IS
ST. GEORGE AND THE DRAGON.
THE DRAGON LIVES IN THE
GROUND…
CHASED THERE BY HEROES OF A
PREVIOUS GENERATION, NOW AND
THEN RE-EMERGING.
KILLS PEOPLE, RIGHT?
THESE ARE SKULLS AROUND ITS
LAIR.
THREATENS THE INTEGRITY OF THE
COMMUNITY, LIKE EVERYTHING
UNEXPECTED DOES, HERO COMES OUT,
SLAYS THE DRAGON, FREES THE
TREASURE.
IN THIS CASE, IT’S A VIRGINAL
WOMAN.
DRAGONS HOARD GOLD BECAUSE THE
THING YOU MOST NEED IS ALWAYS TO
BE FOUND WHERE YOU LEAST WANT TO
LOOK.
